Refund & Reprint Policy
Lamp & Kin Version 1 (draft). Effective [DATE]. Last updated 24 October 2026.
Every Lamp & Kin book is made to order, with your family in it and your words on every page. We can't resell it to anyone else, so this policy is built around one idea: you approve the book before you pay, and we stand behind how it's made and delivered.
Your rights under consumer protection law, including Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002, always apply in addition to this policy.

1. Digital books (ebook + print-at-home booklet)
Your digital book is unlocked as soon as payment is confirmed. We'll refund in full if:
- the files aren't delivered to your account, or won't download or open, and we can't fix it within 5 business days of your telling us; or
- the files have a defect we can't fix, such as a missing, blank, duplicated or corrupted page, or pages in the wrong order, or a book that doesn't match what you approved before paying.
Usually the fastest fix is to rebuild your files, which we're happy to do. Because you see and approve the whole book before paying, and the files are yours the moment they unlock, we don't offer refunds for a change of mind.
2. Hardcover books
Cancelling before printing
You can cancel for free, with a full refund, until the print job starts. A hardcover goes to the printer 24 hours after payment. The order page in your account shows whether printing has started, and our confirmation email tells you how long you have. To cancel, use the Cancel button on the order or email hello@lampandkin.com.
If you cancel a hardcover before printing, we'll refund the full hardcover price.
After printing starts
Once printing starts, the book is being made just for you, and we can't cancel it or refund a change of mind. This doesn't affect your rights if something goes wrong (below).
Print defects and damage in transit
If your book arrives with a print defect (for example misprinted, smudged, cut off, badly bound, wrong pages, colours far from what was approved, or someone else's book) or damaged in transit, we'll reprint and reship it free, or refund it in full if you'd prefer.
To make a claim, email hello@lampandkin.com within 30 days of delivery with:
- your order number;
- clear photos of the problem (and of the packaging, if the book was damaged in transit).
You don't need to send the book back unless we ask, and if we do, we'll pay for the postage.
What isn't a print defect: the normal small variation between screen and paper colours, trimming within the printer's normal tolerance, and things you saw and approved in the preview (including how the AI drew a face).
Lost parcels
If tracking hasn't moved for [10 business days], or your book hasn't arrived within 30 days of the estimated delivery date, tell us. We'll reprint and reship it, or refund you in full. If tracking shows it was delivered but you can't find it, we'll look into it with the carrier and treat you fairly.
Wrong address
If a parcel comes back because the address given was incorrect or incomplete, we'll reship it once you confirm the address, and ask you to cover only the shipping cost.
3. About likeness and content
You see every page, and can redraw and edit, before you buy. So the content of a book you approved (how the characters look, or the words) isn't a defect. If something about your book is truly bothering you, write to us anyway. We're a small, family business and we'd rather help than hide behind a policy.
4. How refunds work
- Refunds go back to your original payment method through Shopify, within 15 days of our approving them. Your bank may take a few more days to show it.
- If a discount code was used, we refund the amount you actually paid.
- One reprint or refund per defect. If a reprint has the same problem, we'll refund you.
5. Fair use
We're glad to sort out real problems quickly. To keep prices fair for everyone, we may decline claims that come without photos, after 30 days, or as part of a pattern of repeated claims. If we decline a claim, we'll explain why, and your rights under consumer protection law are unaffected. Please talk to us before filing a chargeback; we can almost always fix things faster.
6. Your legal rights (Ontario and elsewhere)
This policy adds to your rights; it doesn't replace them. Under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 in particular:
- Before you buy, we must clearly show who we are and how to reach us, a fair description of what you're buying, the total price including taxes and shipping, delivery arrangements, and our cancellation, refund and exchange terms. We must give you a chance to accept or decline and to correct errors.
- We must send you a copy of the agreement (your order confirmation email) within 15 days of purchase.
- If we don't give you the required information or the chance to accept or decline, you may cancel within 7 days of receiving your copy of the agreement. If we don't send you a copy, you may cancel within 30 days of the purchase.
- If a hardcover isn't delivered within 30 days of the delivery date we gave you, you may cancel (unless you accept the delivery later).
- If you paid by credit card and we don't refund you when the Act requires it, you may ask your card issuer to reverse the charge.
Consumers elsewhere in Canada, in the US, and (later) in the EU or UK may have other rights under local law, and those apply too.
